The CREATIVE Life

Alison is constantly having ideas of what music to sing next (or now!), either programming for her choirs, or having ideas of repertoire for her students or herself. It just won’t stop! As an experienced commissioner of new music, she relishes the creative impetus to imagine and make something entirely new.

With pianist Katharine Durran, Alison created New French song (MSV 92100) which consisted of 20 new songs in French for voice and piano, and created a new repertoire for the concert hall. This was generously supported by the Vaughan Williams Trust (now the Vaughan Williams Foundation). She also commissioned ‘Two Queens of the Ile of Britain’ (Helen Roe) for two sopranos playing bells and harpsichord (centred on the relationship between Queen Elizabeth I and Mary, Queen of Scots) with assistance from the Arts Council of Great Britain. She looks forward to more creative music-making in the future. If your choir would like to discuss a new piece to celebrate a special anniversary, you can Ask Alison.

Alison enjoys devising innovative liturgy for church services, and programming the chamber music concerts at St Mary-at-Finchley where she curates the main concert series. She has created a thriving music hub at this church. This includes coordinating major fund-raising activities e.g. Organ restoration (completed 2012) and the current appeal:
